Yoga - Stretching - Inversion Table * Spiritual Health

Commercials in which spry 70 yr old men hang themselves up side down on an inversion table, madly doing sit ups, swinging back up right in gleeful insanity, then springing on to their feet posture perfect was not for me. I was a skeptic. I saw these odd contraptions at floor shows and thought  "yeah sure, as I am hanging upside down it will break and I'll crunch onto the floor upside down on my neck...that's the ticket." But the more I see pictures of  Nelson Mandela's picture perfect posture in his 90's, I wonder if he too was not an Inversion Table warrior.



MY FIRST EXPERIENCE WITH AN INVERSION TABLE

My excuse for purchasing an Inversion Table was for my husband whose favorite second home was the basement weight lifting room.  Here he worked out three hours, every other night, using the washer and dryer cycles for his timer.  This meant supplying him with enough dirty clothes for his work out sets, and you never saw cleaner dog beds and cat cushions as ours.

Years later all this weight lifting has led to his new second home, the Chiropractor.  {Please do NOT tell him I just said this} He is in complete denial. So for his birthday I purchased an Inversion Table. And secretly, I was wondering if it would help me prevent "old lady shrink." Like the Mid-evil torture table, I will stretch my spine longer! Yes!"  Each year I wonder if I'm a little shorter from my phone job and psychic counseling.  And yes, I walk around with the phone.....do a half hour of Yoga EVERY morning before my day starts.  But the curse of all comfortable sit down jobs is shrinking and deteriorating posture.

I was a Denise Austin Yoga fanatic for two years until I switched to Classical Stretch with Miranda Esmonde-White.  Not once did either of them say, "Now to complete this session, stretch out on an Inversion Table!"   They were my queens so they would have told me if this was a productive thing to do.  Instead they promoted Stretch Bands, Yoga Balls and Sitting Blocks.


I COULD NOT BELIEVE HOW TALL AND STRAIGHT I FELT...Denise, Miranda, why didn't you tell me about this?

Once we set our inversion table up in the basement, immediately we went into a competition of which one of us could stay upside down longest.  As my husband set the table to my height, clamped my feet into the stirrups, I stretched my arms even with my head and flew upside down.  I screamed in confusion and fear. My husband assured me all was well, I counted to 19, and by putting my arms beside me on the Inversion Table, it flipped slowly back up.  When I got off the table I felt 3 inches taller and as if I had the posture of a 19 year old.  No kidding.  This has now led to a Half Hour of Yoga in the morning, then immediately afterwards to the Inversion Table where I stretch for 60 second intervals upside down. All I can say is if I miss EVEN ONE DAY....I notice a difference in my lower back tightness and alignment.  And since I am an Intuitive Reader and Life Coach I know its important to walk my talk, with a clear mind, before counseling anyone on THEIR life.

THE COMPLIMENT I GOT
I hadn't seen a couple of friends in almost seven years, when the 20 year old daughter said "you look as young as you did as when I last saw you."  I think that I have gained weight but the Inversion Table has Stretched and lengthened my muscles.
 
It is my egotistical need to walk like a Goddess.  I can not recommend enough to anyone who believes Stretching and Yoga are important, how adding an Inversion Table completes the mix.  And though my husband still goes frequently to the Chiropractor, it isn't the pain and agony weekend anymore after a punishing work out session until the office opens up.  Now he can stretch completely out on the table.  And that's all I have to say about it.  Amen  http://thecallingoflight.com

Sub Zero Insanity and Midwest Thighs

All over America large Midwest thighs will be cramming in to the jeans that fit perfectly two months ago.  Insane temperatures, plummeting as low as 10 degrees below zero,  are socking us.  Just the other day we were watching TV Christmas specials about Greenland glaciers melting and Polar Bears dying from global change and warming temperatures.

A CNN newscast Scientist gives out a Hallelujah that scientists have crossed genetic DNA with a prehistoric animal with a goat...not to worry if exotic animals are exterminated from weather change. Man Kind will gather their DNA and bring them back into existence. I wish they would cross my thin thighs of the past with my chubby thighs of now.

 This life killing cold, we are assured,  is no reflection that Global Warming has gone away.  It's trend is to spit out insane weather conditions, hot, cold, wet, dry and windy....not to mention sink holes so deep ancient warriors would have been proud to throw vestal virgins into. Of course none of this helps a Midwest woman with expanding thighs watching TV documentaries as she stays warm.  Because what we worry about is will we ever lose the weight again. And watching TV is a killer for Midwest thighs.

We  are running around like snow suited, double hatted, mittened little kids.  I cry, a slave to my compassion, for the animals and homeless people left outside to suffer.  Yet somewhere in America die hard fans have paid a fortune to watch foot ball in stadiums, their breath steaming like locomotives, as players run like Roman Gladiators fighting to the death for the entertainment of fans in  insane death-like conditions in Wisconsin. Home of big thighs.

My boots are squeaking in the hard snow as I approach a freezing old dog outside.  He has been outside for days without food. I leash him and bring him in the house for warmth.  My husband runs around doing the laundry. three dogs panting by the electric fireplace,  as I take psychic calls that are pouring in.  Its a good day for business as people have little to do in this weather except sit home, analyze their lives with big Midwest thighs.  Clients call, I tell them what I see, shuffle my well worn cards, laying out the good with the bad...kindly.  And I am very thankful for this business as I need money for the Bow Flex Tread Climber coming Monday to shrink my Midwest thighs.

 It has been told us that it will take 5 minutes for skin to die in these temperatures, and today I take full advantage of this and eat pop corn in a warm living room with the snoring dogs around me. 
There are many boots and shoes of all season by the door, and hoods, hats and gloves on the floor of the closet with one string of remaining white Christmas lights by the window.  In the mean while I look at a Spring Wholesale Planting magazine as if I can manifest warm weather to come tomorrow.

Ferris Wheel of Life ~ Semi Truck Smack Love

Life seems to be a Ferris Wheel.  We glide into the ups and downs of relationships, career, friends, heart aches and joys.  At times the deep felt down-times can cause some to commit suicide, and yet if they would have waited just one more month the Ferris Wheel would have changed position and coasted into joy.

Even the worst of times can change over night.  And love never comes when we plan on it, but hits us broadside like a semi truck. Graphic comparisons I know, but this is exactly how I read. Women of Wisdom, Scent and Sunglasses

As I mellow with the aging Woman of Wisdom in the mirror, I am at a Scent  and Sun Glasses Crisis.  I love the wonderful intuitive awakening of balance in my life.  And I love the mystery that a great pair of sunglasses gives.  Another thing I miss is the exploration of "scent" in old world shops of velvet and silk frocks, trinkets, tapestry and exotic oils. {yes...my classy old hippy era shops, now classified "Bohemian".}

Wood Moss , {ck out new scent version} was always my favorite oil. But there came a point when oils became "too much".  I never tired of the Citrus/Paint Studio/ beat nick fresh scent of "Jean Nate,"  but that too became "Passe."   So I went to the uninteresting world of safe underarm Walt-mart deodorant.  I gave in to "Ordinary" and lost the scent-me.

 As I say farewell to 19 yr old pheromones, I also say goodbye to signature body scent.  How was I to know mine drew children to me like the Pied Piper of Nottingham,  as well as men?  It was more then being a free spirit...which I still very much am. And so it was as I was watching TV one evening a child actor said to his father, "But she smells Old Daddy."  "Oh my God.  Let that never be me. "  I screamed to myself.  I do not ever want to smell anything other then current and fascinating.

 I ran to my spiritual mentor of women, Oprah Winfrey, and on to the "Elemental" blog that stated ALL scent begin with elements of the earth.  Depending on what part of the world you are from, earth scent is going to be unique to your personal memories.  Coming from the Prairie, my "familiar" was rich black fertile soil, clean sky and the smell of rain soaked cement side walks.  Here are the two scents I ended up purchasing:

CHOOSING PRESCRIPTION SUN GLASS FRAMES AS A WOMAN OF WISDOM.

I had to add to this blog my new discovery on how to choose a set of eye glass frames...in my case, prescription sun glasses.   How many times have I sat in an optometrist office with a well meaning kind assistant who judged whether a frame style was "age or face shape appropriate?" The problem is they had no idea of my personal style and I would spend hundreds of dollars wearing someone else's opinion of what looked amazing.  Afterwards, when home with my purchase I was disappointed.  It's embarrassing being caught self absorbed.  This time I didn't care.

Maybe the absolute look of conviction on my face gave me allowance...or maybe it was the fully dilated pupils of compassion from my recent eye exam which convinced the office to try let me try 13 sets of sunglasses on, taking two "selfie" pictures each, side and straight on. {I meticulously set each frame back in its appropriate place after each photo.}

Then I sat down and studied all the pictures.  To my amazement, the pair I really hated looked great.  My price range was set and I refused to go over budget.  The pair I ended up with looked surprisingly current, would have probably sent an assistant running SCREAMING, but made me feel sheik.  They are not for everyone. However, there is no better judge of weight and looks then a photo of ourselves.  We are our own worst critic.

As I ordered and paid for my frames,  I waved goodbye to a woman of wisdom who wished me a beautiful day, bravely allowing an assistant to ohhh and ahhhh over styles she hated.

Dripping in Jeweled Christmas Lights * Achieve Radio

Around the Holidays I am shamelessly dripping in jeweled Christmas lights.  Suddenly my garden arches explode into Heavenly entrances of white, my 5 ft cement angel sparkles in gold, and the entrance to my house is lit up.  My eyes constantly scan for improvements; ...one more electrical light brush stroke to the composition. I could give a hoot about gifts, although I do cherish a great plate of frosted cookies.

At 4:30 I leash my dog and we walk up and down the streets to view the neighbor lights.  I love the Blue light framed houses, and notice an all white color scheme is pristine and beautiful, but also, {maybe, safely age related.} It seems the older one gets the more important it becomes to be neighborhood acceptable and blend.  Not so houses with children that relish in lots of color.  I strive for a balance. 

Every year I tell myself I will pack the lights neatly, unwind them gently, and mark them as to where they go.  It is a wonderful organized high to pack them in layers in my trunk, and better yet to unpack them during the Holidays.  I am a child again opening boxes of treasure.

The next time I will take on this obsession is in the spring, when my lane explodes into jewels of laborious plantings of orchestrated tulip and spring flowers.   http://ann-marie-odell.com

The Prairie Crone - Intuition, Menopause, Tribal Support

Though I have always had the gift of Intuitive Vision, in my Estrogen years the way I perceived the world and myself would crash into a sort of self pity and loneliness two weeks before my period.  My reality was tinged of course not by my true positive character, but the internal storm of my hormones.

 When I think about the ancient Native American Ceremonies that prohibited menstruating women from joining in festivity for fear their energy would disrupt the calm of others.....I think back and know I was one of those melancholy, easily angered P.M.S. triggered souls.  

Of course, no one wants a Psychic Reading or advice from someone who is going through a sort of bleak mood about their own life, for fear of projection into their reading.  Thankfully in those days I was not giving readings full time.  I feel that in getting advice from anyone, measuring internally that persons mood by their voice quality, or attitude, is very important in how seriously you take the information you are receiving.

WHEN I TURNED 50 - WHATS THIS? {"WELL HELLO SELF"}

When I turned 50 a wonderful calm came into my life and I could wake up with it, go to bed with it, and it did not leave me.  Of course everyday financial decision dictated my life like everyone else, but my way of dealing with emergency and crisis was not so radical and I could make less emotional choices. I understood at last why the circles of white and grey haired medicine women and men made so many tribal decisions.  Without raging male testosterone to distort aggression, or feminine estrogen to distort melancholy, we find at the core is pure clarity of vision!

I NOW READ FULL TIME

I see that getting older is a blessing, provided we care for our bodies, exercise, eat right and choose carefully who we hang out with.   Let me add here, that I also believe that each of us is a vehicle for Angel Guidance, and how we take care of ourselves honors our guides and in response, our personal blessings are increased.  {Letting our selves become out of shape and inactive within our control, is the same as letting our cars go without oil or tuneups.}

One of my favorite realizations is that the great spiritual leaders of this world, and I will use Jesus and Buddha as example, understood you can heal the masses but you never bring them home with you.

Your private circle of friends, as with Jesus and Buddha and their disciples, are a support system.  If you allow the broken or wounded to come home with you, or choose to nurture one as your lover, you too will get sucked into the dark rabbit hole of crisis.  And this pertains to Peace Corp, Medical Heroes that assist in natural disasters and war, as well as our own families.  We must always have a strong like-minded support circle even if that connection is only once a month.  They are the strong shoulders who assist during tough times when we need a reality check. But you must give strength as well as take it.  Being a lone wolf is not an excuse.  We are all tribal.  Even if this tribe exists in Social Networking.  It is sanity during the storm.
